Behavioral Health

Northern Valley Indian Health’s highly seasoned and experienced Behavioral Health staff provide culturally competent, high-quality treatment services.

Our Behavioral Health providers provide a dynamic range of services to our patients such as psychotherapy, play therapy, and family therapy. We have relationships with some local school districts to support students on campus. Our Behavioral Health team also has an Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Program providing one-on-one counseling and follow-up to program participants as well as offering group counseling and substance abuse education.

Behavioral Health services are offered in Chico, Willows and Woodland. School-based services are offered at select schools in our service area. Spanish-speaking clinicians are available.

We strive to respect all people and all cultures. We offer specific cultural services to Native Americans.

Licensed or certified practitioners are available to provide confidential assistance with many areas of living including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, parenting issues, behavior problems, school failure, and family conflict.

Available Behavioral Health services include individual psychotherapy, play therapy, family therapy, sand play therapy, and referrals.

Youth services are available year-round
All insurances are accepted including Medi-Cal, Medicare, and private insurance
There is no charge for Native American individuals and significant others/spouses

WOMEN’S & GIRLS’ GROUP

The NVIH Behavioral Health Department is now offering a Women’s Support Group to Native American women and women in the community. The group focuses on issues and concerns of women today and is presented in a culturally respectful, supportive, and caring atmosphere.

NATIVE AMERICAN LIFE SKILLS

Native American Life Skills Coaches (NALSC) are on staff and advocate for and promote the general health and well-being of Native Americans regarding issues revolving around the prevention, intervention and/or treatment of alcohol, drugs and other related disorders.

The NALSC is an individual who is a cultural match and a positive role model for Native Americans. The NALSC is someone who cares deeply about youth and who is able to form healthy and caring relationships with Native American youth. The NALSC is someone who carries traditional Native American knowledge and wisdom. They may speak Native Languages, know how to sing Native American songs, teach drumming, beading, dancing, tell stories, and engage in other Native American ceremonies. The NALSC builds relationships with youth by planning and meeting short- and long-term goals for success in school and eventual self-sufficiency.

IN-PERSON GROUPS

Important! All in-person groups are suspended until further notice. Some groups are available via video conferencing during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are now accepting referrals for telehealth counseling sessions for both Native American and non-Native Americans seeking help.

*Note that group services vary from clinic to clinic. Due to the pandemic, not all groups are able to meet. Certain groups are available via video conference. If interested, please inquire with Behavioral Health Staff at your local NVIH clinic.
